VolunteerTalk: “Quiet at Night” Service

On March 17, 2016, the CAHHS Volunteer Services Office received the following inquiry from Nora Wallace, Public Relations Coordinator at Lompoc Valley Medical Center in Lompoc, California:

Please use comment section below to reply to Nora’s inquiry.

We are hoping to create a “Quiet at Night” evening service for our inpatients, where a volunteer would go room-to-room with items such as a hot towel, ear plugs, magazines, etc, in an effort to improve our “Quietness in the Hospital” patient scores.

I am looking for information on whether other hospitals are doing this, and if so, to learn some details about how to get started and what the program entails.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks!

VolunteerTalk: Emergency Department Volunteer

On March 18, 2016, the CAHHS Volunteer Services Office received the following inquiry from Mary Alice McLoughlin, Manager, Customer and Volunteer Relations at Community Hospital Long Beach in Long Beach, California:

Please use comment section below to reply to Mary Alice’s inquiry.

I currently have volunteers who staff the Emergency Department Information Desk. I’d like to expand their duties to making rounds in the ED and checking on patients and their families for comfort (refreshments for family members who have been waiting a long time, etc.).

Does anyone have a job description which details duties?

Any help is  much appreciated.

Thanks!
