The Learning from Your Peers – The Process of Returning Your Volunteers Zoom session took place Wednesday, September 16. Thank you to Moderator, Roseanna Galindo, CAVS, and presenter panelists Layah Blacksberg, and Patricia Dooley, CAVS, for sharing your process of returning volunteers to the hospital environment.

Overview

As COVID-19 cases stabilize in many counties and patients begin returning for elective procedures, volunteer leaders are receiving approval to bring volunteers back to hospital operations.

Last month’s webinar Relaunching Your Volunteer Program During COVID-19 with director of volunteer and chaplain services Kathleen McIntire, CAVS of Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center provided much-needed tools and resources to assist volunteer leaders in implementing the return of volunteers. Participant feedback from the webinar showed many are eager to hear more from your peers and CAHHS Volunteer Services is pleased to provide you with the opportunity to do so.

In an interview-type session which is designed to help attendees learn from their peers, Layah and Patricia will discuss the processes and procedures they utilized to successfully return volunteers to their hospitals. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and take advantage of this opportunity to share ideas.

In early spring as California hospitals prepared for a COVID-19 surge, many volunteer departments were forced to suspend their programs. Volunteer leaders adapted to the change, shifting their roles within the hospital while maintaining contact with their volunteers, who were anxiously awaiting approval to return. As the weeks and months have passed, the absence of volunteers has been felt throughout the hospital community, and it was only a matter of time before volunteer leaders began focusing on how to prepare for their volunteers’ return.
