Learn from Your Peers – Reopening Your Gift Shops During COVID session took place Dec. 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. Thank you to presenters Gina Cuneo with Enloe Medical Center, Mamta Kaur with Stanford Health Care, and Stephanie Nelson with Ventura County Medical Center for providing an excellent educational session for our members.
Overview
In July and August, CAHHS hosted Zoom sessions with peer volunteer leaders who shared their processes and procedures used to safely return volunteers to the hospital setting. Now, as hospitals look to reopen gift shops, CAHHS is planning a Dec. 15 learn-from-your-peers Zoom panel discussion focused on hospital gift shop operations.
Although most hospital volunteer programs or auxiliary groups oversee hospital gift shop operations, they are not all associated with volunteer departments. Based on previous polling statistics, more than 75% of California hospital gift shops closed in early spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, many remain closed, however, some hospitals have adapted their gift shop operations and have reopened safely and successfully either virtually or in-person.
Please join us on Dec. 15 from 2 to 3 p.m. (PT) as three CAHHS member hospitals – Enloe Medical Center (228 beds), Stanford Health Care (613 beds) and Ventura County Medical Center (223 beds) – share their 2020 gift shop story. Topics will include, but are not limited to:
- A brief history of gift shop operations pre-COVID-19
- Closure date and impact the closure caused on sales and employees
- Steps to reopen and/or launch virtually
- People and/or departments involved
- Time and effort involved
- Resources utilized
- Future of the gift shop
During the session, attendees are encouraged to ask questions and take advantage of this opportunity to share ideas.
