Profile

Valerie Kohler
Volunteer, Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Northridge

After working for ten years as an insurance executive in a multinational brokerage firm, Valerie retired to raise her two young sons.  When her youngest son left home for college, Valerie wanted to remain active and engaged in something meaningful and fulfilling.  She decided to become a volunteer at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, her local hospital.  In 2005, she began working in the Hospital’s Gift Shop and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  Subsequently, she became the clothing buyer for Infant/Children’s Wear.  She also spent five years working in the Escort Office as well.  Eventually, Valerie joined the Auxiliary, first as Hospitality Chair for two years, Recording Secretary for two years, Executive Vice President for two years, and is now the current President of the Auxiliary for the third and final year.  She is also the Vice President of the Golden Hour Guild, which raises funds for victims of trauma.  After serving two years as Vice-Chair of the Hospital’s Foundation, she is now the current Chair until July 1, 2016.

Having attended three CAHHS Volunteer Conferences, Valerie was interested in taking her involvement to the next level.  Accordingly, at the encouragement of her fellow Northridge Hospital colleague Bill Newbold, Valerie joined the Committee on Volunteer Services in 2015 and will be actively involved in the planning of the 2016 CAHHS Volunteer Conference.
