Roxanne Foster
Director, Volunteer Services, John Muir Health, Walnut Creek

Roxanne Foster has a lifetime career in healthcare and non-profit administration. She worked as editor of Hospital Topics Magazine; in Public Relations and Marketing for Advocate Health System; was part of the team that achieved approval for the first hospital built under Illinois Certificate of Need legislation. In the Bay Area, she engaged in healthcare marketing/ public relations/development consulting and leadership positions. Her specialty is management and development in start-up or change management times for healthcare organizations.Fourteen years ago, John Muir Health (JMH) hired her to implement an outreach volunteer program for seniors–Caring Hands. In 2002 she became DVS and has merged three strong, independent volunteer programs into one cross-campus department, also oversees the Behavioral Health Center program, and implemented a new program at a new JMH facility…now totaling 1,600 volunteers. She has implemented a Music Program, the Art-for- Life Program on two campuses, and a partnership with the On-Track Program to involve recovering brain trauma patients in volunteer experiences. She also oversees a Medical Equipment Loan Program and successfully has moved programs piloted at one facility to other facilities—including the Patient Relations and Docent services.

In 2011 she served as Chair Designate for the Directors’ Coordinating Council (DCC), Volunteer Services of the California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (CAHHS) and in 2012 served as Chair. In these capacities she was involved in planning the 2012 and 2013 California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Conference.
