Michele Davenport Lambert

Michele Davenport Lambert creates and implements the strategic direction for CalHEN participating hospitals, collaborating with them to reduce health care acquired conditions by 40 percent and readmissions by 20 percent by Dec. 31, 2013. To help hospitals reach their goals, she coordinates with existing regional and statewide patient safety and quality programs and initiatives.She also ensures that communications, education and training events are available to augment hospital resources.

Michele has more than 30 years of clinical, management and consulting experience working with nonprofit and for-profit hospitals varying in size across the US, including small critical access and community hospitals, tertiary medical centers, an HMO and high-level integrated delivery hospital systems. While working in the HMO, Michele had collateral responsibility for managing the pharmacy, pediatrics, internal medicine and family practice benefits for the health plan. Her experience also includes 14 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Indian Health Service in Arizona and New Mexico. She has held staff nursing positions in hospital lines of service, ambulatory care and home health. She has also worked in hospital administration as a director, senior vice president and acting COO.

Michele’s expertise and passion is process improvement, and applying business principles to the science of health care — enabling health care teams to embrace and drive their organizations to remain viable and support their communities. Michele is a registered nurse and a family nurse practitioner. She has a bachelor’s and master’s in nursing administration, a post master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner and an MBA.
