Melissa A. Heinlein, PhD, CAVS is the Chief of Voluntary Service at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Philadelphia. Her accomplishments include being a reviewer for VA volunteer departments and a team member for national task groups.  In 2014, Melissa was tasked with overseeing the volunteer initiatives for the 34th National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Philadelphia which included over 2,500 volunteers from 28 states. She is an adjunct professor at Chestnut Hill College and member of the Delaware Valley Association for Volunteer Administrators. Melissa serves as a board member and reviewer for the International Journal of Volunteer Administration and is on the leadership team for Pracademics through the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action.  In 2015, Melissa served on the volunteer committee for the World Meeting of Families for Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia. Melissa’s research focuses on burnout and volunteer resource managers.
