Mary Matson, CAVS
Director, Volunteer Services, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Torrance, California

Mary Matson has been in the field of Volunteer Management and Human Resources administration for over twenty years, serving as Director of Volunteer Services at Torrance Memorial since 2006. In this capacity she oversees nearly 900 hospital volunteers and two volunteer support groups totaling over 1,000 volunteers with 150,000 hours of annual service. Mary is grateful for the support her department receives from hospital administration and staff.

In addition to managing volunteer services, Mary serves as Chairperson of Torrance Memorial’s Service Excellence Council and is a member of several interdisciplinary committees and workgroups including Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), Environment of Care, Emergency Management, Community Relations, Noise Reduction and Smoke-Free Campus.

Mary served as president of Southern California Association of Directors of Volunteer Services (SCADVS) in 2012 and is concluding her second year on the CAHHS Directors’ Coordinating Council. Mary is a Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS) and is both excited and daunted to begin a graduate program in Health Care Administration in Fall, 2013.
