Layah Blacksberg
Director, Volunteer and Spiritual Care Services, UC San Diego Health

Layah Blacksberg is the Director of Volunteer and Spiritual Care Services at UC San Diego Health. Appointed in 2017, Layah oversees a staff of 10 team members and 900 volunteers. Most recently, Layah served as Supervisor for Patient Navigation and Volunteer Coordinator for the Oncology Service Line at UC San Diego Health.

Layah brings more than a decade of experience in program development, training and employee engagement, and volunteer management. While serving as the Medical Supervisor for a global healthcare company, Layah initiated a training program for newly hired Emergency Medical Technicians as well as assisting in operational oversight of a new facility. Layah also spent time at the University of Utah – Huntsman Cancer Institute on a National Institutes of Health funded research study. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Layah served as a Volunteer Coordinator at NewYork-Presbyterian, Weill Cornell and participated in expanding the inpatient oncology volunteer program.

Layah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from the University of Utah and earned her Master of Arts degree in Education and Jewish Studies from New York University with a concentration in Administration, Leadership and Technology. She currently resides in San Diego with her husband and two children.
