Karen Reynolds
Volunteer, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Newport Beach, California

Karen Reynolds and her husband, Jon, have lived in Huntington Beach, CA, since 1976, with son and daughter and their families also living in California.  Karen grew up in the Midwest, earning a BS degree in mathematics from Purdue University and an MS in math from the University of Notre Dame.  After 23 years of systems engineering and operations management in software intensive design, development and production for satellite and ground stations at Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon Electronic Systems, Karen retired in 1999 as Director, Business Initiatives, for the Raytheon Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems Division.  She had been her mother’s caregiver and had found that Hoag Hospital and its affiliate medical staff and her church had provided such wonderful care and support that she wanted to volunteer in order to give back some of the kindness and care.  Since 2000 Karen has volunteered in the Hoag Emergency Department, and until 2008 also volunteered in the Cancer Center Day Hospital.  She is an Elder of Christ Presbyterian Church and currently coordinates the church senior adult programs.  She is past president of Hoag Hospital Auxiliary and of the Orange County Council of Hospital Volunteers, and for the past three years has been a member of the California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems Committee on Volunteer Services, serving as Region II Adviser.
