Harriet R. Lee
Volunteer, Antelope Valley Hospital, Lancaster

In 2001, Harriet retired as a school bus driver. Harriet spent her first few years of retirement recovering from a back injury and required spinal surgery. Eager to maintain an active lifestyle, her doctor suggested she volunteer at Antelope Valley Hospital.

In 2006, Harriet began volunteering in the auxiliary office, moving throughout the hospital volunteering in the Foundation, thrift store and the Forensics Services Unit. In 2009 she joined the volunteer auxiliary board, serving as first vice-president and the editor of Newsy Notes, a bi-monthly auxiliary newsletter. In late 2009, she became president , serving in this position for more than 2 ½ years. Harriet also served as recording secretary and again as president, and continues to be president and Newsy Notes editor today.

In addition to her board service, Harriet enjoys creating and donating quilts for the auxiliary annual opportunity drawing/bake sale events.

Harriet also served as the recording secretary for Tri-Valley Area Council of Hospital Volunteers until it disbanded in 2012. In 2012, she became a member of the CAHHS Committee on Volunteer Services and continues to serve today.

When asked about her volunteer role, Harriet responded, “I really enjoy volunteering for my hospital and the CAHHS COV. Being a member of the COV has allowed me to expand my working knowledge of the problems facing health care today and working to expand the role of volunteers in healthcare’s future. I take pride in leading our hospital volunteers into the 21st century.”
