Deborah Austin
Director of Patient Relations and Accreditation, John Muir Health, Walnut Creek, California

Deborah Austin joined John Muir Health (JMH) in 2004 after nearly 16 years with Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC).  At ACMC Deborah developed the Patient Affairs Program.  Since joining JMH Deborah has enhanced the Patient Experience by enrolling the medical centers in the HCHAPS and HHCAHPS Patient Perception Programs, providing best practice techniques for improvement, and reviewing and adhering to State, Federal and Accreditation Standards. 

Deborah has successfully coordinated several licensing and accreditation surveys including the Joint Commission, Center for Medicare/Medicaid, and California Department of Public Health.  Deborah has also participated in Magnet Certification surveys.

Deborah holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from CSUS Hayward and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UC Davis.  She serves on external committee’s such as the CHA Joint Committee on Accreditation and Licensing, California Patient Relations Association (Past President), and Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA).
