Bill Newbold
Volunteer, Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Northridge

Bill Newbold (AKA John William Newbold) is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a member of the Northridge Hospital Foundation Board, a member of the Northridge Hospital Auxiliary and a hospital volunteer. As a volunteer, Bill frequently greets visitors at the Information Desk and assists customers in the Gift Shop. Mary Newbold, Bill’s wife of 50 years, recruited him about sixteen years ago to do the Auxiliary newsletter which he still writes, edits, and prints today.

Bill was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and Purdue University with a B.S. in Aerospace and Engineering Sciences. During his professional career Bill worked as a private consultant to the Canadian Government and as an employee for both profit and non-profit companies. He specialized in systems engineering for satellites, launch vehicles and military payloads, many on the Space Shuttle. Some of these were activities were so highly classified that he could not discuss it with anyone outside the “community”, not even Mary.

During his volunteer career, Bill has been President, Treasurer and Recording Secretary of the Northridge Hospital Auxiliary. He has been active in the CAHHS (California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems) Volunteer Services Network, having served as a Region Advisor and, later, Chair.

Aside from volunteering, Bill enjoys traveling, snow skiing, digital photography, and learning new computer skills. Bill and Mary have twin daughters, Jennifer and Julie, who both reside in California.
