Alejandro Vazquez

Alejandro Vazquez is a volunteer in the Department of Emergency Medicine at LAC+USC Medical Center. He began volunteering at the medical center at the age of 15. Initially looking to complete service hours for high school, Alex went on to assume a leadership role assisting the program coordinators with orientations and giving tours to new volunteers. His involvement fostered an atmosphere of inclusion and cooperation amongst the high school volunteers. After graduating high school, Alex immersed himself into the Department of Emergency Medicine where he continued to assist with the orientation and training of new volunteers in the department. In addition to his service in the emergency room, Mr. Vazquez has helped organize wound management classes as well as seminars with guest speakers with the goal of providing additional education and exposure to students in the volunteer programs.

Alex Vazquez received his BA in Political Science from the University of California Irvine in 2013. He was awarded the Volunteer of the Year for the County of Los Angeles in 2008 and 2013. He has donated over 2,900 hours and is currently a student the Premedical Post baccalaureate Program at the University of Southern California. His areas of interest include the history of Medicine and healthcare policy. Alex hopes to apply to medical school in the 2016 cycle.
