Why health care organizations have ramped up lobbying expenses this year

Health care interests spent $5.2 million more on lobbying in the first three quarters of 2015 than they did in the same period a year ago. That’s a little surprising for the first half of a new legislative session, but health care was big in the Capitol this year. A $1.1 billion gap in the Medi-Cal budget and fights over childhood vaccinations and assisted suicide put California in the national spotlight, but efforts to tackle — or defend — the business side of health care also attracted big dollars.
