Thousands urge Gov. Brown to boost Medi-Cal spending

Thousands of people rallied at the state Capitol on Tuesday, shutting down 10th Street for hours. The issue: Medi-Cal, the health insurance program that serves roughly one-third of all Californians, some 12 million people in all, most of them children. They arrived Tuesday by bus — 80 in all according to one event organizer — for a giant rally denouncing previous Medi-Cal cuts.

Tuesday’s event was well-orchestrated by groups that rarely agree on any issue — organized labor and the California Hospital Association.
