Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson this week began full-time operation of a 3-dimensional mammography unity that doctors say increases their ability to find tumors hidden in breast tissue and also reduces the chances of false positive results.

The hospital reported that about 100 patients had mammograms produced by the Hologic Tomosynthesis 3D mammography unit.

“This new 3D mammography unit is a super-high-tech machine that provides a much more detailed scan, particularly in dense breast tissue,” said Sutter Amador radiologist Dr. Phil Granchi.
