The California Department of Finance proposes cutting 68 health professionals who contract with the state though the nonprofit Public Health Institute. The state contract with the California Department of Public Health would not be renewed after it ends Sept. 30. The layoffs, part of Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2014-15 budget proposal, are expected to be backfilled with state positions, said a spokesman for Public Health Institute.
