Stanford University program addresses doctor shortage

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors heard a presentation Tuesday about a program from the Stanford University School of Medicine that could help address a shortage of doctors in the county.

The presentation introduced the university’s Primary Care Associate Program. The 21 month program educates students so they can become physician assistants in under-served areas such as Humboldt County.

Chantal Lobue, the Humboldt County regional coordinator for the program, said they are looking to recruit prospective students from the county.
