St. Joseph, Redwood Memorial announce 68 layoffs; officials cite lack of elective surgeries
Times-Standard

St. Joseph Hospital and Redwood Memorial Hospital announced Monday that 68 employees — or 5 percent of the hospitals’ total workforce — will be given layoff notices Monday. At a press conference, Chief Executive Officer Joe Mark called the layoffs “a very difficult message, but a necessary message.” Mark attributed the layoffs to a drop in outpatient and surgical services that he blames on a poor economy and people forgoing elective surgeries such as knee or hip replacements.
