Sacramento Business Journal

The California State Senate closed the special session on health care reform Monday following approval of legislation to reduce the number of uninsured in California and broaden Medi-Cal services available to low-income residents.

The special session bills represent the largest expansion of Medi-Cal coverage since 1966, expanding eligibility to 1.4 million additional Californians. Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill X1-1 and Senate Bill X1-1 on June 26.
