Some doctors alienated by mandates return to practice

Just like video killed the radio star, the federal mandate on electronic medical records ran off several of Tuolumne County’s long-standing, well respected doctors.

Some took their retirement money and ran and a few others went “rogue” or “under the radar” and opened up cash-only practices in Sonora.

A key provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health, said that as of Jan. 1, 2014, all public and private healthcare providers and other eligible professionals must have adopted and demonstrated “meaningful use” of electronic medical records to maintain their existing Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement levels.
