S.F. supervisor Mark Farrell introduces health care transparency legislation
San Francisco Business Times

San Francisco Supervisor Mark Farrell is introducing a bill requiring hospitals and insurance companies that work with the city’s Health Service System to provide price and quality information by 2016. The bill is part of a broader national effort to force health care companies to make cost and quality information available and help consumers make informed decisions. Farrell’s price and quality “transparency” measure would cover any health care vendors who provide benefits to the City and County of San Francisco, the San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco City College and San Francisco Superior Court, which together includes 109,000 employees, retirees and their dependents.
