The Service Employees International Union takes aim at hospitals
Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

Silicon Valley hospitals are being targeted by union-backed health care initiatives that would cap charges for procedures and require greater spending on charity care.

Hospital officials say if the Fair Healthcare Pricing Act of 2012 and Charity Care Act of 2012 initiatives qualify for the November ballot and are approved by voters, they will cost affected health care facilities statewide up to $1 billion annually and cause up to 20 hospitals to close their doors.
