San Jose hospital, 2 others fined for patient care violations
San Jose Business Journal

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center was one of 13 California hospitals fined and slapped with a safety citation for problems that caused — or were likely to cause — serious injury or death, the California Department of Health reported. The San Jose hospital was fined $50,000 — its first administrative penalty ever — because it did not properly assess a patient in April. The patient died after seven hours in the waiting room. A nurse misread blood results for the patient, who suffered from extreme anemia, the CDH reported.
