Salinas hospitals await trauma center choice

One of two area hospitals is likely days away from earning the coveted designation as the county’s first trauma center.

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors is set to consider a recommendation from an independent review panel on whether county-owned Natividad Medical Center or the public district hospital Salinas Valley Memorial will be the choice to treat the area’s most seriously injured patients, including victims of everything from auto accidents to gunshot wounds.
