Radiation doses lower with digital mammography, study finds

A study of nearly 50,000 women undergoing breast-cancer screening exams found that digital mammography radiation doses were on average 22% lower than the doses released by traditional film mammography systems. The study, “Comparison of Acquisition Parameters and Breast Dose in Digital Mammography and Screen-Film Mammography in the American College of Radiology Imaging Network Digital Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial,” appears in the February issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
