Purge of hospitals helps gastric patients
Orange County Register - Landon Hall

Patients undergoing weight-loss surgery have benefited from what amounted to a purge of many hospitals that performed the procedures, based on a study conducted at UC Irvine Medical Center. Survival rates have climbed and patients have enjoyed improved outcomes since the federal government imposed restrictions on which facilities could perform bariatric operations, according to research by Dr. Ninh T. Nguyen and his UCI colleagues. Their findings are included in the latest issue of Archives of Surgery.
