Primary care physician supply not keeping up with demand

California’s doctor shortage could be getting worse. There are new concerns about the declining number of primary care physicians nationwide and in San Luis Obispo County, health officials are calling it a crisis within a crisis.

“Historically, there’s been a primary care doctor shortage in San Luis Obispo,” said Ron Yukelson of Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. “Typically, every single year about 50 primary care doctors is what our study says is needed here in this county.”
