President Obama’s abrupt shift on health policies causes consternation in California
San Francisco Business Times

President Barack Obama threw insurance regulators nationwide into a state of confusion Thursday by announcing a one-year delay in the controversial cancellation of individual policies under the Affordable Care Act. In the Golden State, that includes California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, officials at the California Department of Managed Health Care, and the Covered California exchange itself.

Jones in recent weeks said that a Blue Shield of California life and health insurance unit and Anthem Blue Cross, for differing reasons, would be forced to delay individual policy cancellations affecting about 220,000 Californians. Now those recently revealed plans appear to be in tatters, with the President telling the nation Thursday that “insurers can extend current plans that would otherwise be cancelled into 2014. And Americans whose plans have been cancelled can chose to re-enroll in the same kind of plan.”
