Patty Maysent new CEO of UCSD health system

Patty Maysent, the new chief executive of the UC San Diego Health System, has master’s degrees in public health and business administration. But she said her most valuable credentials were earned in the pool. “I think I learned more from swimming that I use today than any of my formal degrees. When you’re swimming competitively, you’re in it 111/2 months per year. You’re training six days a week and you’re all in. It takes total dedication,” Maysent said. The UC Board of Regents voted unanimously Thursday to remove the word “interim” from Maysent’s title, making her the health system’s first female CEO. The appointment is a high-profile second act for a woman who dialed back her career in her 30s to make herself more available to her two now-grown children.
