Participation, payments jump in quality reporting programs

Participation and the number of incentive payments increased dramatically for two CMS pay-for-reporting programs, according to a figures contained in the 2010 Physician Quality Reporting System and eRx Experience Report (PDF) which was released March 30.

For the Physician Quality Reporting System (formerly the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, or PQRI), the CMS reported that total incentives increased 65% to $391.6 million in 2010, from $236.7 million in 2009. The average payments made to individuals and practices were up only slightly, so the main reason for the increase was that the number of individuals and groups who were eligible for payment increased significantly.
