Opinion: Only true competition will effectively reform health care

The surprising result in last month’s special election for the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat has raised concerns among Democratic congressional leaders whether they can pass a health care bill they’ve been working on for nearly a year. As our elected officials in Washington grapple with how to move health care legislation forward, the Blue Shield of California Foundation and the Committee for Economic Development (CED), both nonprofits, have released a research study on what the health care system of California can teach us about national health care reform.
