The most important value for a hospital is its commitment to its patients, says Bill Picha, the former Good Samaritan Hospital chief executive officer. Whether a hospital employee is at the patient’s bedside or not, everyone has to buy into that belief. “The evaluation of a good hospital is not who has the most efficient utilization review or who gets the patient out the fastest with the least amount of money,” Picha said.
