Not-for-profit revenue rose in 2011, Moody’s says

Revenue growth rebounded in 2011, but it remains weak compared with growth prior to the recession for not-for-profit hospitals and single-state health systems rated by Moody’s Investors Service.

In coming years, revenue will likely be squeezed by expected Medicare and Medicaid cuts and lower payments from insurers for hospitalized patients, Moody’s said in a newly released report.

“For (fiscal) 2013 and beyond, we expect lower payments for inpatient procedures from all payers and a continued shift to outpatient modalities as healthcare reform rewards hospitals that operate more efficiently and deliver high quality care,” the report said.
