No Ebola for Sacramento patient at UC Davis Medical Center

A patient being treated at UC Davis Medical Center does not have Ebola, public officials announced Friday.

The patient arrived at Mercy General Hospital in East Sacramento on Thursday. Suspecting Ebola, physicians transferred the patient to UC Davis Medical Center, one of the state’s eight designated treatment centers for the disease, around 9 that morning. The patient had symptoms consistent with Ebola, and had a history of travel to an Ebola-affected country, the hospital confirmed.

The Ebola test was completed at the Sacramento County Public Health Laboratory. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved that lab for Ebola testing just this January, said county spokeswoman Laura McCasland, and this was the first specimen to be tested there.
