Mercy patient being treated at UCD Med Center for possible Ebola

A patient is being treated at the UC Davis Medical Center for the Ebola virus, according to representatives from the hospital and the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services.

The patient originally sought treatment at Mercy General Hospital in East Sacramento before being transferred to the UCD Medical Center, Mercy spokeswoman Melissa Jue confirmed. UCDMC is one of four sites designated by state and federal health officials to treat possible Ebola cases in California.

The patient is considered low-risk, and more information is being gathered, said Laura McCasland, spokeswoman for the county health department.

Mercy’s emergency department remains closed for cleaning, Jue said. The rest of the hospital is open.
