Medical board won’t force doctors to disclose probation to patients

Your doctor might be on probation, but don’t expect to hear that from him or her.

The California medical board on Friday unanimously rejected a proposal from a consumer advocacy group that called for physicians to notify patients directly when they are on probation, with some board members calling the idea “excessive” and “overly prescriptive.”

“I actually think it’s punitive,” Dr. Randy Hawkins said. “It will get in the way of patient care.”
