Measles spike triggers drive for vaccinations
Orange County Register

The spike in measles cases in Orange County this year has prompted health officials and doctors to reach out to parents who have refused vaccinations for their children.

That segment of the population has been growing for years, and it just made another leap: According to state figures released this week, the number of “personal belief exemptions” filed for incoming kindergartners in the county rose 20 percent between fall 2012 and fall 2013. That’s compared with a 15 percent increase statewide. The exemptions are waivers that allow students to attend school without being vaccinated.
