Massive data breach at Anthem could affect 80 million customers

Anthem, Inc., the second-largest health insurance company in the U.S., says as many as 80 million customers have had their account information stolen. Anthem plans and brands affected include: Anthem Blue Cross, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Amerigroup, Caremore, Unicare, Healthlink and DeCare. Hackers gained access to Anthem’s computer system and took information including names, birthdays, medical IDs/Social Security numbers, street addresses, e-mail addresses and employment information, including income data, Anthem president and CEO Joseph Swedish said in a statement posted on the company’s website.
