Marshall hospital finds success as an independent

Marshall Medical Center had a pre-tax net income of $3.1 million in 2015. That’s a better bottom line than three local hospitals that are part of health systems. Two of them — Sutter Auburn Faith and Methodist Hospital — lost money. But life isn’t easy for independent hospitals. They struggle with rising costs, physician recruitment, inability to negotiate good rates with insurance companies, and lack of deep pockets to pay for capital improvements.
