Mammography cutbacks hit South Bay clinics

Recent cuts to a breast cancer screening program for low-income women are having a significant ripple effect in the South Bay, where thousands of mammograms from around the state are sent to be analyzed. Medical residents seeking specialization in mammography who study at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Foundation near Torrance have been left with little to do since the state narrowed eligibility to the Every Woman Counts program on Jan. 1.
