Local hospitals prepare for mass casualty event

Orlando Regional Medical Center accepted nearly four dozen patients Saturday night and Sunday morning who were victims of the deadly shooting at the Pulse nightclub in central Florida.

In 90 minutes, the hospital had six operating rooms up and running – twice its usual total.

“It’s amazing what ERs can do when they’re put into those kind of situations,” said James Seay, the emergency department manager for Bakersfield’s San Joaquin Community Hospital. “When stuff like this happens, you end up with what looks like on the outside as chaos, but it’s what (emergency rooms) do every day.”
