The Impella mobile learning center made a stop at Kaweah Delta Health Care District Friday, where hundreds of staff accessed the hospital’s newest cardiac device.

The Impella is the world’s smallest heart pump, according to the company that developed the machine, Abiomed. The device pulls blood from the left ventricle through an inlet area near the tip and expels blood from the catheter into the ascending aorta.

The mobile center was open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for staff and volunteers to visit.
