Kaiser Permanente says what caused last week’s website outage

Kaiser Permanente, which experienced intermittent website and patient portal issues last week affecting access by enrollees nationwide has provided some details about the incident. The Oakland-based health care system, which has 10.2 million enrollees nationwide, including about 8 million in California, said a 20 percent jump in “post-holiday” web traffic caused “load-balancing issues” beginning Jan. 19 that downgraded its website’s performance.
