Kaiser Permanente to acquire Seattle-based health system
San Francisco Business Times

Kaiser Permanente is acquiring Group Health Cooperative, a Seattle-based health system with nearly 600,000 enrollees that has had close ties to Kaiser for decades.

The definitive agreement, if executed, would be Oakland-based Kaiser’s first significant acquisition since the mid-1990s and could signal a more aggressive approach by the 10.2-million enrollee health care giant.

Since Group Health is a nonprofit, Kaiser would spend $1.8 billion to endow a community foundation in Seattle as part of the deal.
