San Jose Business Journal - Chris Rauber

In a move sure to further roil the political and PR waters, California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner said Monday that an investigation of consumer complaints filed against Anthem Blue Cross’ claims handling practices has uncovered more than 700 violations of state law. Specifically, Poizner alleged that “market conduct exams” of Anthem Blue Cross found 277 cases of failure to pay claims in 30 days, 143 cases of failure to respond in a timely manner to regulators about complaints, 65 cases of allegedly misrepresenting facts or policy provisions and multiple other violations of California law.
