Huge gift to UCSF hopes to make a dent in dementia

A $177 million gift from the largest donor to the University of California system will zero in on training a new generation of health care workers and policy makers about dementia, a broad family of illnesses including Alzheimer’s disease and post-stroke loss of memory. The grant to UC San Francisco and Trinity College Dublin is the largest program grant ever made by Atlantic Philanthropies, the organization created by Duty Free Shoppers founder Chuck Feeney.
