Hospitals fight budget deal’s Medicare cuts

Local health leaders said they were disappointed that last week’s federal budget compromise continues a 2 percent cut to Medicare reimbursement rates even as other industries, like defense, are seeing cuts restored from the 2012 sequester.

As the budget heads to the Senate floor this week, state and national hospital lobbies are putting pressure on elected leaders to undo the sequester cut, even as they praise other efforts to delay cuts to doctor reimbursements and to hospitals that serve large numbers of poor patients.
