Hospital phasing cost increases to $14.7M

A surgical effort to cut a budget deficit for the Tehachapi hospital construction fell short due to additional requirements, according to Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District’s project manager.

Stacey Pray, whose firm manages the construction project, said the construction deficit rose from $5.8 million to $14.7 million because state codes require the new hospital to have surgery and kitchen areas.

The district’s board of directors in October voted to cut a projected $23 million deficit down to $5.8 million by planning to complete the construction in phases.
